Glass and retention
Impact windows use an approved laminated-glass and frame-retention assembly. A standard window may use annealed, heat-strengthened, tempered, or insulating glass without an impact-rated retention system.
Testing and documentation
Impact products are selected from documented tests and approvals for impact, cycling, pressure, size, and installation. A general window specification is not interchangeable.
Weight and handling
Laminated and insulating laminated units can be substantially heavier. Delivery, lifting, field access, frame preparation, and qualified installation require planning.
Project value
Impact products can combine opening protection with everyday windows and doors, but the value depends on code, risk, insurance, maintenance, energy performance, and the condition of the existing building.

Can impact glass be installed in a regular frame?
Not as a general substitution. Impact performance depends on the approved glass, frame, glazing retention, hardware, anchoring, substrate, size, and pressure as a complete assembly.
