Label before you measure
Assign a unique opening ID by floor, room, or elevation. Use that ID on photos, measurements, quote lines, delivery labels, and installation notes.
Record width and height in several places
Measure the opening at the top, middle, and bottom for width, and at the left, center, and right for height. Record each value without silently rounding.
Document depth and substrate
Record wall depth, frame type, existing material, sill condition, exterior finish, interior return, obstructions, and accessible anchoring surfaces.
Treat quote dimensions as preliminary
A professional field verification is strongly recommended before a custom product enters fabrication. The final order dimensions must follow the selected system and approved installation method.
Turn the guide into a real opening schedule.
Keep every dimension, option, pressure, document, and delivery note connected to the same opening ID.

Should I order from the smallest measurement?
Do not apply a universal deduction. The final manufacturing dimension depends on the frame, opening, installation method, clearance, and manufacturer instructions.
